| Ray-Ban Sunglasses |
|
Ray-Ban is a manufacturer of sunglasses, founded in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb, on commission of the United States Air Force. In 1999, Bausch & Lomb sold the brand to the Luxottica Group. Ray-Ban was responsible for creating two of the most imitated sunglass models on the planet. One is the Ray Ban Aviator and the other is the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. |
|
| The Aviator was created in 1936. The glasses were developed specifically for pilots and were used by the military. In 1937, they were available to the general public. The Wayfarer has been available since 1953 and is reported to be the best-selling style in history. The glasses were especially popular in the 1980s thanks to the movies The Blues Brothers and Risky Business and the television show Miami Vice. The popularity of the film Top Gun led to an increase of sales of forty percent of Ray-Ban Aviators. The 1992 Quentin Tarantino film, Reservoir Dogs, features characters wearing Ray-Bans (most famously in the opening credit sequence which featured the characters in black suits putting on Wayfarer Ray-Bans to George Baker's "Little Green Bag.") |

Light, Sound, and Waves Science Fair Projects: Using Sunglasses, Guitars, Cds, and Other Stuff (Physics! Best Science Projects)
by Robert Gardner |
|
Light, Sound and Waves Science Fair Projects is an excellent source book for the junior high school student. The book could also be adapted for use in a high school setting. Projects are covered in seven major areas, including, but not limited to, sound waves, light, transverse waves, and polarized light. Each area is then divided into from three to eight projects. The section titled "Straight Light Paths and Images" is a good example of how the projects contained in the book are presented. The section begins with a complete list of materials. |
Publisher: Enslow Publishers (May 2004)
Product Dimensions: 9.8 x 5.8 x 0.5 inches
Pages: 128 pages |
|
| Following the list of materials is a complete explanation, with drawings, of what must be done in the project. Questions that must be answered are presented as the student completes the different steps. Finally, a section called "Science Project Ideas" gives further thought to the concept. Some of these ideas could actually be used in a student's own science fair project. |
